As a longtime resident of Le Sueur, I have been lamenting the lack of art spaces in the area. I have been envious of other towns with museums, galleries, and studio space for artists to work. Why can’t Le Sueur have something like that?
Well, I am not the one to build such a thing. It requires way too much organization of people and non-profit management, and grants, and donors, and memberships, and paying bills.
While I might not be the best suited to manage such a thing, I do find myself in the position of pointing out the need for it. I’ve been pitching this idea for twenty years, to anybody that would listen. And many would say it’s a great idea, and leave it at that.
Well now, a small group of other artists have joined me in this rally, and formed a group, and started having meetings, and built a website, and planned our first event. We have named the organization Le Sueur Arts, with the bold intention of one day adding the word “Center” to the name. A foolish endeavor, with a long way to go, but nobody else was doing it.
Thursday, November 21, in conjunction with the Le Sueur Night Out, we are having our first Art Hop. Some businesses participating in the Night Out, have offered spaces to host artists in a pop-up fashion for one night.
We are still accepting area artists to join through Monday, November 18. There is a sign-up form on the website.
